I read this book, the Reenchantment of the World, by Morris Berman, back in the early 1990s. Then I lost track of him. Recently I heard this interview with him on the podcast of James H. Kunstler. It is a pretty fascinating interview. I think that some of Berman’s ideas go a long way toward explaining why so many Americans seem to cling to and/or gravitate toward very backwards and harmful religous ideas.
